The pitfalls of corporate welfare are coming up with more bad news on the future of Sears Canada.
It was revealed this week by the retailer they may not be able to meet their financial committments over the next year.
Back in January, Opporotunities NB announced they would be giving Sears Canada $4.3 million in payroll rebates and loans to create up to 350 jobs at a Sears contact centre in Saint John.
PC leader Blaine Higgs says it needs precise criteria that would evaluate the risk because you want a risk/reward model that benefits the province.
He says the fact that you don’t have that and it’s based purely on a political decision well then you get into situations like this and it’s not news.
We asked Higgs if he would be staying in a job at either the Sears retail store or a contact centre and he says if he did work there he would be looking for options.
