U de M Conducting Study About Safety In The Community

A Universite de Moncton research team is conducting a study on social cohabitation in Greater Moncton as the region continues to grow rapidly.

Three professors are leading the project to find out what are the perceptions and what is the reality of living in a growing city with problems such as homelessness.

The team was inspired by residents who have been expressing concerns about their safety to city council because of the presence of homeless people in public spaces.

A community survey will be launched online for residents who will be asked to indicate on a city map the areas that make them feel insecure.

Other questions will also be asked about their sense of security and their relationship to the space.

The research team adds the goal of the study is to better understand the realities surrounding the city’s development by integrating both the perceptions of different people and statistical data.
