Two NB’ers Named Champions Of Public Education

Investment in education is one of the single most important things Canadians can do to ensure a bright future for our country.

That was the message from an awards ceremony hosted today by The Learning Partnership where former New Brunswick Child and Youth Advocate Bernard Richard and Ken MacLeod, President and CEO of the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra were named Champions of Public Education.

MacLeod says the orchestra’s Sistema program engages and teaches young people life skills like discipline, self esteem and confidence, as well as improving their literacy and grades.

MacLeod says Sistema helps more than 600 students a day in four centres across the province.

Bernard Richard says child and youth advocacy has been a lifelong passion for him, but really took off when he became Minister of Education for New Brunswick.

Richard says our children are our most precious resource, and says the earlier we invest in education, the better the results are in the long term.
