Two men have been charged after a pair of firearms incidents in northwestern New Brunswick on Friday which prompted an emergency alert.
Stephen Perley, Jr., 25, and Mckenzie Moir, 21, are facing firearms-related charges in connection with the incidents in the Tobique Narrows area.
Police responded to a complaint in Medford around 7 p.m. Friday that a man had pointed a firearm toward at least one person and fired a gun in the presence of several people, including a child. They say the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle toward Perth-Andover.
Shortly after, police say one of their vehicles was struck by bullets as they tried to stop the suspect vehicle on Route 105 in Tobique Narrows. Police believe there were two people in the vehicle when the shooting occurred.
The incidents prompted an emergency alert to be issued in northwestern New Brunswick and an extensive police search over the weekend.
Perley was arrested in Fredericton on Sunday afternoon along with two other people, who were later released from custody.
He is charged with intentionally discharging a firearm while being reckless as to the safety of another person and possession of a firearm while prohibited in relation to the Medford incident. He is also charged with failing to comply with an undertaking on an unrelated matter.
Police say Perley was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on Thursday morning.
Moir was arrested in the Tobique Narrows area on Saturday after the suspect vehicle was located in a ditch along Route 109.
He was charged with discharging a firearm with intent in relation to the incident where a police vehicle was struck by bullets. He is also charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and resisting or obstructing a police officer.
Moir was held in custody with a scheduled court appearance on Wednesday afternoon.
