Two Injured, One Rescued From Moncton Fire

A mother and child have been taken to hospital with injuries following an afternoon fire in a building at the corner of Cornhill and Park Streets.

Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Paul Bruens says firefighters arrived shortly after 1 p.m. to find flames visible from the building which contained five units.

Bruens says the mother and child escaped on their own but crews rescued a man in another unit and he was treated on scene by paramedics.

He says firefighters brought the blaze under control rather quickly but spent a couple of hours tackling hot spots.

The second floor was extensively damaged and Bruens noted the building is not considered safe at the present time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
