Two-Day Sentencing Hearing For Justin Bourque Begins Today

The fate of a man who went on a shooting spree in Moncton in June, killing three RCMP officers and wounding two others, will be sentenced today.

When he pleaded guilty on August 8th, 24-year-old Justin Christien Bourque was told by Chief Justice David Smith that he could be facing consecutive life sentences with no chance of parole for 75 years.

Bourque pleaded guilty to three counts of first degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.

The terror began on June 4th when Bourque shot and killed Constable Doug Larche, Constable Dave Ross and Constable Fabrice Gevaudan. He also shot and wounded Constables Darlene Goguen and Eric Dubois.

A 30-hour manhunt began as hundreds of police officers descended on Metro Moncton and much of the city’s northwest was locked down until Bourque was finally caught.

The tragic events lead to an outpouring of support for the RCMP as the community grieved for the victims and their families.
