Two alleged assaults at Dorchester Penitentiary

Two alleged assaults on inmates have been reported at Dorchester Penitentiary, according to the Correctional Service of Canada.

A spokesperson told our newsroom that both of the alleged incident took place at the federal institution over the weekend.

“Only one of those assaults was considered an assault leading to bodily injury,” Sophia Doiron said in an email to our newsroom.

In that incident, which occurred on Sunday, the inmate was taken to the hospital for treatment and later returned to the facility.

The assailant has been identified and “appropriate actions” have been taken, said Doiron.
