The Trudeau Government is being called on by a Senate committee to do more to help Syrian refugees get on their feet.
Senator Jim Munson says there should be more federal funding for language training with better access to childcare so Syrian women will not be left behind. Munson became emotional when he talked about the image of the young Syrian boy’s limp body being carried away from a Turkish beach after he had drowned.
The Senate would also like to see debt forgiveness of the loans some of the Syrian refugees took out to travel to Canada or, at least, not be charged interest.
