The Trans Canada Highway between Moncton and Fredericton is a busy stretch of road for the trucking industry.
Many carriers are likely going to be affected by the closure with some having multiple loads per day along the route.
Jean-Marc Picard, executive director of the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association, says the long detour via Saint John will mean extra time and added costs.
“It’s going to have some impact for carriers, some more than others. In some cases it could even be significant depending on how long the closure is,” he says.
On the bright side, Picard says fortunately for truckers there is a detour available and he adds this is a weekend so traffic will be lighter.
