Trucker Convoy Draws Over A Thousand N.B. Supporters

Truckers from across Atlantic Canada received a warm welcome as they rolled through Moncton on Thursday afternoon.

Supporters of the “freedom convoy” waited at a stop along Harrisville Boulevard for over an hour despite the wind chill reaching a frigid minus 26, according to Environment Canada.

Over a thousand people were gathered along the overpass, and beside the highway, holding Canadian flags and signs that carried messages such as “Thank you,” or “We stand with our truckers.”

Shortly after noon, a line of trucks passed by the stop, accompanied by pickup trucks and vehicles supporting the convoy, which prompted cheers and applause from the crowd.

Ahead of Thursday’s events, the RCMP acknowledged that a protest was planned and members would be on site, stating “Public safety is our top priority.”

Truckers are en route to Ottawa, where they will meet with counterparts from across Canada, who are demanding the federal government eliminate the vaccine mandates imposed on their industry.
