Tri-Communities Develop Joint Emergency Measures Plan

Municipalities are required to have an Emergency Measures Plan, but a recent amendment is a first for Greater Moncton.

Moncton Fire Chief Eric Arsenault says, “What makes it unique, is for the first time, all three communities are actually adopting the exact same plan. Disasters or emergencies never respect city boundaries. This plan gives us the basis to gather teams of people together and manage the emergencies in a collaborative spirit versus one that is on a different page.”

The joint plan has been adopted by Riverview and Moncton. Dieppe will follow suit on May 14th.

Arsenault says the three municipalities have had emergency measures plans for a long time, as required under the Emergency Measures Act.

“When we are in times of crisis, we should be unified and not divided. We have three Fire Chiefs who are also Directors of Emergency Measures in their respective communities. We look at collaborations as the correct way of managing emergencies,” Arsenault says.
