Transport truck leaves highway in St. Stephen

One person was taken to the hospital after a transport truck left the road and went down an embankment in St. Stephen.

Fire Chief Sean Morton said the incident happened on Route 1 westbound between kilometre markers nine and 10 around 7 p.m. Thursday.

The transport truck was hauling cardboard at the time of the crash, according to the fire chief.

Morton said the driver was taken to the hospital but he does not believe their injuries were life-threatening.

He said the owners of the trucking company had to call in heavy wreckers to remove the truck. Crews were still working on doing that on Friday.

According to New Brunswick 511, Route 1 westbound is closed between Exit 13 (St. David Ridge Road) and Exit 9 (Route 3).

The website indicates that the westbound lanes will be closed until around midnight Friday night.
