TransCananda maintains pipelines are the safest way to transport oil.
That from a joint news conference on the day they file an application on the Energy East pipeline project with the National Energy Board.
President of Development Alex Pourbaix says the 30,000 page document details the extensive consultation the company did across six provinces in just over 18 months.
He says their staff spoke with over 5500 landowners, more than 100 First Nation communites and over 7000 individuals who have shared their comments at 100 open houses they have held across the country.
Pourbaix says the construction and development phase and the first 20 years of operating Energy East is expected to generate more than 7 billion dollars in additional tax revenues for local, provincial and federal governents/
