Traffic On Moncton’s West Main Street Should Return To Normal Soon

The end is near for a temporary traffic light on West Main Street which has been in place since a major construction project began over the summer.

The City of Moncton has set a target date of next Friday, December 23rd for when the busy artery will once again open up to four lanes of traffic.

Engineering design and construction director Alcide Richard says the project was expected to wrap up by late November but Mother Nature has played a role.

“The Achilles heel in this whole thing of course at this time of year is weather. Everything is weather dependent right now,” he notes.

The multi-million dollar Jones Lake spillway and culvert replacement project was undertaken to relieve major flooding problems along Jonathan Creek.

CN Rail also replaced a culvert of its own further downstream.

The last major flood occurred in December 2014 following a heavy rain event.
