Traffic Circle May Close For Much Needed Repairs

The province’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure plans to close the busy Halls Creek (Dieppe) traffic circle for two weeks next month.

DTI says the road is very deteriorated and are also hoping to extend the ramp from Paul Street to give a better side-view from the overpass.

The evaluated cost of the plan is $2 million and includes resurfacing at the intersection of Botsford and Wheeler.

DTI engineeer Renee Morency-Cormier addressed city council during a special meeting on Monday to request a noise by-law exemption in order to do the work at night.

She says they are planning to work from 6:30 pm to 6:30 am as a safety precaution for workers.

A request was sent to DTI for the circle to be closed completely from September 13-26.

Morency-Cormier says the project will take about six weeks to complete, starting immediately until October 3.

According to a 2014 report, about 70,000 vehicles use the traffic circle daily.
