Tory MLA Will Not Seek Re-Election

With the possibility of a provincial election looking more and more likely, one Tory MLA has announced he will not seek re-election.

Carl Urquhart, representative for the Carleton-York riding and the public safety minister, says he is stepping away from politics and will not re-offer when the next election is called.

Urquhart has represented the riding since 2006, when it was known as just York.

In a statement, the outgoing MLA thanked the constituents of Carleton-York, his family, and the PC caucus for their support.

Earlier in the week, Carleton MLA Stewart Fairgrieve also announced he would not seek re-election.

Premier Blaine Higgs said Friday that he didn’t plan to call an election this weekend, leaving the door open for the writ to be dropped early next week.
