Tomar The Tiger Honoured With Bronze Sculpture At Magnetic Hill Zoo

On the tenth anniversary of his death, a statue to Tomar the Tiger is in place at the Magnetic Hill Zoo.

General Manager Bruce Dougan worked with Tomar during his stay, and remembers him as a star attraction who thrilled many people.

“I think with the general public, they got to like Tomar because it was an animal that was really exotic, and when I first arrived at the zoo we didn’t have a lot of exotic animals here, we had lions, but there wasn’t a lot of other animals that would be considered exotic, most of them were domestic,” says Dougan.

He says the $14,000 statue really reflects Tomar, by showing him playing with a small pumpkin, one of his favourite toys.

This video below shows Alik, one of the current Amur Tigers at the Zoo, playing with a catnip smeared pumpkin.
