Thunderstorm watch issued for southeast N.B.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for southeast New Brunswick as forecasters warn conditions could shift quickly.

Environment Canada issued the yellow‑level alert Friday for Kent County, Moncton, and Kouchibouguac National Park.

The agency said conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that may become severe and produce heavy rain.

Environment Canada said heavy downpours can lead to flash flooding and significant reductions in visibility, and warned that driving conditions may be difficult.

The watch carries a moderate impact level and high forecast confidence, according to the agency.

Environment Canada reminds people to go indoors when thunder is heard, adding that lightning injures and kills Canadians every year.
