Three Local Schools Are Being Studied For Midlife Upgrades

Three schools in the Moncton area are getting studied for the possibility of mid life upgrades.

Social Development Minister Cathy Rogers spoke about what that really means.

She says it’s a new approach the government is taking to extend the life of the schools.

“If we invest at a strategic time in the life cycle of the school and we address specifically structural concerns we can modernize the buildings and extend their use up to 30 years or more,” says Rogers.

She says this is a new choice by the provincial government.

“So this is taking a more long term vision and it’s investing strategically at the right time so you can get the best use out of your building, and the longest use,” says Rogers.

She says mid life upgrades do require a higher upfront investment.

“The return on investment is expected to be bigger for the long term,” says Rogers. “In the case of Bessborough we’ve committed to an assessment study of about $75,000 to be carried out at the school.”

Bessborough School, Salisbury Elementary School, and Polyvalente Louis J Robichaud school are all targeted for mid life upgrades.
