Three Fathers Memorial Run Sold Out!

A Three Fathers Memorial Run is planned for its seventh year, but it will once again be held virtually this year.

It honours the three RCMP members, Constable Larche, Constable Ross and Constable Gevaudan, who sacrificed their lives for local community’s safety on June 4th, 2014 in Moncton.

Board Member Nadine Larche says they were overwhelmed by the response, “The fun thing about the virtual run that we’ve learned is we’ve had people signed up from across the country. Every single province and territory, we have participants.”

They’ve already hit their maximum number of participants for this year’s run. Each participant receives a race kit which includes a race medal and an event Buff for 2021.

“People can do it on their own time, where they want, when they want. We encourage Father’s Day because that is the tradition, but because it is virtual you can do it anytime, anywhere,” Larche says.

The traditional run is three kilometres, but they also opened it up to other distances as well, including five kilometres or a half or full marathon.

The goal each year is to raise $18, 000.

A $1000 bursary is given to eighteen students, three from each of the six local high schools in the Codiac RCMP region. Those schools are Mathieu Martin, L’Odysee, Harrison Trimble, Moncton High, Bernice MacNaughton and Riverview High.

The names of the chosen students are expected to be released early next week.

Larche is hoping the run can be held locally and in person again for 2022. There is also consideration to offer both an in person run and a virtual one as well.
