Twenty-three thousand dollars were raised during yesterday’s multiple myeloma march.
Over 50 supporters and survivors participated in the 5k walk on Saturday.
Moncton City Councillor, Shawn Crossman push to bring the event to Moncton to raise awareness for the disease himself.
Crossman, who’s been in remission from the disease since June, says the event allowed him to meet others who were affected.
“Cancer is something that some people want to talk about and other people wish not to talk about, and I really didn’t know anyone other than the people I met at the hospital and today to have 4 or 5 people come forward that are survivors of multiple myeloma was really touching for me and really showed that they wanted to get out there, show their support and have their stories heard,” he says.
He was very pleased with the turn out for the first event of its kind in the city and is already looking forward to putting together next year’s march.
“I’ve learned a lot of things from this first walk so next year I’ll be a better and a little earlier with awareness and set up water stations throughout the walk and hopefully have this great weather again,” says Crossman.
