Additional charges laid following arrest of man wanted on Canada wide warrant

A 35-year-old man from Haut-Aboujagane has been charged following a theft and resisting arrest incident in Moncton.

RCMP say officers located a stolen SUV on Tuesday after it fled police earlier in the day. Several units assisted, including RCMP Air Services, Police Dog Services, the CRU Priority Offender Team, and General Investigative Services.

The suspect reportedly parked an SUV on Gordon Street in Moncton. A news release stated that RCMP blocked a man from re-entering the vehicle, and an altercation ensued, and an edged weapon was seized.

During the struggle, the suspect reportedly was able to start the vehicle and, while attempting to escape, backed into an unmarked police vehicle. He then collided with a second police vehicle.

RCMP arrested a man who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for failing to comply with the conditions of his statutory release.

Additional charges, including possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl and met, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, mischief, resisting arrest and assault on a police officer, have been laid.

He remains in custody pending a future court appearance.
