Homelessness is still a major concern in the three largest cities in New Brunswick according to a recent survey by Narrative Research Associates.
Margaret Chapman says 1100 people were surveyed on the subject and the results varied from city to city.
“There is either recognition that it has been a steady problem or it’s an increasing problem and it seems more acute in Moncton, very strong in Fredericton and it was moderate in Saint John.”stated Chapman.
She says the numbers tell the real story about the issue, with 62 percent in Moncton, 50 percent in Fredericton and 40 percent in Saint John 40 percent saying they had seen an increase in the past year.
“A notable portion about a quarter to a third to even 4 in 10 felt that it had stayed the same, but it is important to note that very very few of those felt there had been a decrease in the number of homeless persons in their city in the past year,” stated Chapman.
