Nine cases of legionnaire’s disease have been linked to a cooling towers in West Moncton.
Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Yves Leger says the best method of practice for testing involves sending samples to a laboratory for testing.
However, results may take weeks. That’s why they are also using a method called PCR testing where a machine sorts the live bacteria from the sample.
“That will go into a box that’s attached to a computer that will test for live legionnaire’s bacteria,” says Leger.
He says this method delivers results within roughly an hour.
Twenty-six buildings in the GMA are currently undergoing testing.
