Tenants Displaced In Moncton Apartment Fire

Tenants of an apartment building in the 400 block of High Street had to be evacuated due to a fire on Tuesday afternoon in the midst of a snowstorm.

Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Brian McDonald says crews found smoke coming from the top floor of the two-storey building when they arrived shortly after 1 p.m.

McDonald says the fire was below the roof and above the ceiling which took several hours to tackle.

Four stations responded to the fire with 17 firefighters on scene.

No one was hurt.

McDonald says the Red Cross will be assisting the tenants and a Codiac Transpo bus was brought in as temporary shelter.

McDonald was not certain about how many tenants were displaced but he added the building was under renovations and some units were empty.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
