There will be temporary closures at two emergency departments in New Brunswick this weekend.
Officials with the Horizon Health Network said it is due to staff shortages caused by an increase in COVID-19 cases.
The Sussex Health Centre emergency department will be closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday night from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. the next day.
While the emergency department at the Sackville Memorial Hospital will be closed all weekend, reopening at 8 a.m. Monday.
“All patients and clients requiring urgent medical care will need to seek treatment at other hospitals,” Horizon said in a news release on Thursday.
The release goes on to say that the health authority is actively working to recruit physicians and nurses to reduce temporary closures and resume services.
“Horizon remains committed to providing safe and quality care, and the decision to temporarily close the ED is made to ensure safe care for our patients and clients.”
