Tax Hike Possible For Moncton Residents

Moncton residents could also be looking at a tax hike.

Council is considering a 1.5 cent tax increase, that would amount to around $24 per year for a owner of a home worth around $157, 000 dollars.

Shrinking provincial equalization payments, and cooling real estate values are partly responsible.

With lower than expected increases in property values, tax revenue drops.

Mayor George LeBlanc says a tax increase is not desirable, but tough decisions are necessary.

In his eight years leading Council, Leblanc notes they have lowered taxes three times, and held the line four times.
