Talented Performers Hope For Top Prize As “OpporTuneity Knocks”

On Wednesday, opportunity will knock for one of 27 acts in Moncton.

They have all registered for a new event called “OpporTuneity Knocks” that will benefit the Greater Moncton Down Syndrome Society.

Board Member Ben Vuillemot (ville-moh) says these acts will present a wide variety of talents.

“It’s not just singing, we have musicians, we have drummers, jazz band, magicians, dancers and we have a yo-yo master,” Vuillemot says.

Society President Sandra Blatt-Arsenault says the money raised will help benefit members of their organization.

“It is for our local community, so persons with down syndrome. That could look like something as simple as gas money to get them to the IWK. Sometimes there’s specialized appointments that they need to get to, that they can’t find the doctors around here. About 50 per cent of people who have down syndrome have some sort of heart defect, so we need to travel and that costs money. Or we’re also creating new opportunities for camp facilitators, so people who can help if your child wants to go to summer camp. We’re going to be providing that opportunity for the child and for the parents.”

The performers range in age from 6year old to over 50.

The public is invited to attend, and can vote for their favourite talent..

Admission is $10 and votes are $1 each.

The top prize for best Performer is $2000.
