Survey Results Express Pros And Cons At Anglophone East Schools

The Anglophone East District Education Council is always looking at the what improvements can be made in schools, to make them better for staff, students and parents. That was the purpose of a survey conducted in the fall.

Around 3100 responses were received from parents and school officials.

Superintendent Gregg Ingersoll says comments for each school can now be viewed by the public, “At the school level now, Principals and the Parent School Support Committees can look at the responses from parents to see what they can do at the school level to impact what parents are saying. They can also look at the District level as well, to see what needs to be influenced, so changes can be made.”

Overall, positive comments were about teachers and staff, how communication is good, and that there is a focus on safety.

The survey also found improvements can be made by offering more classroom support, focusing on student wellness and academics, and cracking down on student behaviours.

In the past, the DEC has conducted public forums, by going to school to school, but Ingersoll says they often weren’t well attended. He says they found an electronic format, that allowed them to send emails to parents offering them the opportunity to take part in a survey.

Ingersoll says questions were very broad this time, but now that suggestions have been made, they can narrow down the questions, and be even more specific.
