A Harm Reduction Survey conducted on behalf of the New Brunswick Community Alliance – including Ensemble Moncton – is helping pull back the curtain on drug use in the Hub City.
In Moncton, of 20 people surveyed during May and June of this year, 11 were women, and 9 were men – ranging in age from 19 to 66 years old.
45 per cent of those surveyed said growing up their family situation was either well, or relatively well off – which the report says contradicts many beliefs people have about drug users.
The most frequently used non injection drugs in Moncton were crack cocaine, followed by crystal meth.
For injection drugs, Dilaudid – an opiate – was the most popular, followed by cocaine and hydromorphone – another opiate.
The users reported the biggest change in the drug scene over the last two or three years was the influx of the powerful, and cheap crystal meth.
