It’s an interesting concept for a fundraiser.
The Algonquin Hotel and Resort in Saint Andrews hosting SuperBowl Trivia, where you watch the big game, eat great food, show off how much you know about football, and help out the Fundy Mariners high school Basketball team.
Algonquin GM Matthew MacKenzie says one of his staff created the event to become more involved with the locals during the off-season. He said she’s done a great job of hosting past trivia events, and this one started with the idea of sending the proceeds to a good cause. MacKenzie says his team felt passionate about helping the Fundy Mariners High School Basketball team in nearby St. George, so they decided to help.
“We want to have something engaging, to bring the community together,” MacKenzie adds, “I do believe it sends a strong message that we care, and we really want to make sure that athletics, sports in our community, health, fitness, wellness, all those things are congratulated and supported.”
MacKenzie says they will be continuing Trivia nights and SuperBowl may become an annual event supporting local organizations. “We will definitely be trying a lot of things to generate interest and support for the Algonquin in the off-season. My goal is to keep as many people from Charlotte County working as long into the year as possible. So all these things we are doing are to keep us front of mind. So yes, if the support is great and we can see this is something everyone is looking for, we will continue with new ideas every month.”
SuperBowl Trivia will begin at 5pm, before the ‘Big Game’ begins at 7:30pm. Cost for the event is $20, which includes the cost to play Trivia and the SuperBowl buffet. Ticket sales, as well as a portion of draft sales will go to the Fundy Mariners High School Basketball team.
