The summer solstice officially arrived in New Brunswick at 12:54-pm today.
According to Accuweather, a warm and dry summer is in store for the province this year.
Smoke from forest fires in Western Canada could play a role in the weather this summer.
Meteorologist Brett Anderson says the forest fire season started early and we’ve already seen smoke being carried by the jet stream across the country.
“It can travel very far in a very short period of time. It doesn’t take much. You get the wind just right and we’re predicting more of a west-northwesterly flow of air here so that could direct some of that smoke from time to time,” he notes.
After a cool spring and a relatively warm June so far, Anderson believes real summer heat won’t arrive until July.
