A unique conference is being held this week for Anglophone East students.
The District has partnered with Saint Thomas University in Fredericton for a Respect and Diversity Conference. They are the first school district in the province to offer this.
Subject Coordinator for Positive Learning Environment John Tingley says almost 200 students will take part, “All of the Anglophone East High schools have GSA’s, or Gay/Straight Alliances and also mental health advocacy groups. The high schools chose five from each, so there are ten from each high school coming, and there are some from middle schools as well.”
The conference is being held at the Moncton Coliseum and it will feature workshops as well as a keynote speaker, Mouctar Amadou, who will speak about his decision to leave Niger, Africa and move to Canada and live “the Canadian Dream.”
Tingley says this is a follow-up from the Mental Health Symposium that they held in the spring.
They’ll be using the information to ensure it syncs with the positive learning environment and inclusion policies in their schools.
