Strategic Thinking Needed For Future Of East End, Says Moncton Mayor

No commitments have been made, but Moncton’s Mayor says there need to be discussions, with regards to the long term plans for the East end.

This comes after the sudden closure of St. Pat’s Family Centre last week, due to financial issues.

A group of Centre supporters attended last night’s Council meeting, with the hopes the City would offer help to give St Pat’s another life.

Mayor Dawn Arnold says we need to put all of the options on the table, “We need to talk to all of the different stakeholders in the East end. We’ve had a lot of issues in this area and we need to look strategically at all of them and put them together. I’m convinced that if we bring people together and we can talk about their future plans and what the expectations are of the citizens, we can all work together to find a solution.”

Arnold says, “Unfortunately, the City can’t do everything, because there is only so much money to go around, so we will have to think strategically as to what are the best things for that area.”

The Mayor did add, that a request has been made from the centre to pay the staff, along with a couple of other things, “Staff have been directed to take a look at it, to see how we might be able to help, and also to do further research.”
