Storm Knocks Out Power To Tens Of Thousands Of Residents In NB

A winter storm has made for a slow morning across the region. Environment Canada says the Moncton region had received roughly 22 centimetres by 8am, but there is more snow to come throughout the day. The snow was mixed with ice pellets, and high wind gusts with blowing snow have caused visibility problems right across New Brunswick.

There are also widespread power outages, with up to 42, 000 people in the dark. The hardest hit area has been the Fredericton area, where downed trees and power lines knocked out electricity.

NB Power crews are continuing to work to get the lights back on for all customers.

Schools across most of the province closed for the day today, giving the students their first snow day of the school year. There are also numerous cancellations.
