The third storm in a week in Metro Moncton, and it is delaying the opening of businesses.
Roads are also a mess. Many are impassable, and there is a lot of blowing and drifting snow. Highway 2 between Moncton and the Nova Scotia border is closed. It is impassable and has blowing and drifting snow.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Jean-Marc Couturier says there is about 40 centimetres of snow down since the storm started last night, and we have seen wind gusts of up to 80 kilometres an hour. Things are expected to improve throughout the morning.
On top of the snow, it’s very cold, with windchill values around minus 29. The cold weather isn’t going anywhere for the next couple of days.
There could possibly be another system that will make its way through our region later this week.
He says, “There is another storm that shows potential for Thursday. At this point, there are some uncertainties, but it looks like mixture of rain for the Atlantic Coast of Nova Scotia and snow for Southern New Brunswick.”
