Steeves 250 Organizers Say No One Left Disappointed Despite No Record

The signature event of the Steeves family reunion didn’t set a new world record but no one left feeling disappointed.

Organizers counted 937 family members at the Moncton Coliseum and the record for a gathering of the same last name under one roof was 1,488.

Steeves 250 spokesperson Susan Steeves says at the end of the event, it was really just a number.

“We had a far bigger sense of our family, who we are, and where we came from. It was emotional to the point that I’m a little surprised I didn’t start to cry. That’s how emotional it was for me and I’m sure for many others,” says Steeves.

Many of the celebrations for Steeves 250 are centered around the festival main stage in Hillsborough this week.

The reunion marks the 250th anniversary of the Steeves family arriving in Southeast New Brunswick.
