After nearly half a century of official bilingualism in New Brunswick, you might expect bilingual services to be excellent but such is not the case. That’s the conclusion of Languages Commissioner Katherine d’Entremont in her annual report.
D’Entremont would like the provincial government to conduct an in-depth review of the Official Languages Act implementation plan, saying it falls short and should be revised.
D’Entremont says there are a lot of myths and misconceptions making the rounds about language duality and bilingualism.
Conservative M-L-A Jody Carr says he learned about the richness and importance of preserving the french language when he served as Education Minister. He calls it a gift and says it breaks his heart to see the division, frustration and angst over language in the province.
D’Entremont praised the New Brunswick Heart Centre at the Regional Hospital for how it has handled service in both languages.
