St. Pat’s Community Centre Sold To Partenaire Dumont Inc.

The future of the S. Pat’s Community Centre, on Providence Street, has now officially been decided.

The Board of Directors for St. Patrick’s met with membership Wednesday night, faced with a difficult decision.

Board President Maria Mutch says the most logical decision was to sell the property to Partenaire Dumont Inc, which is linked to the Georges Dumont Hospital.

It wasn’t a unanimous vote amongst the membership.

“It wasn’t a decision made lightly and we certainly spent a lot of time and research and did ask for opinions and met with the community. Everything was presented and we didn’t waiver from the fact, that it just wasn’t feasible,” Mutch says. “We all came in with the best of intentions. I’ve sat on many boards and I have never worked with such a hard working group of people who spent hours and hours on what to do. Everyone’s objective was to do what’s best for the legacy of St. Pat’s and the membership, to continue that legacy.”

The Centre closed in July 2018 due to financial difficulties.

Mutch says just because the property has been sold, doesn’t mean an end to the idea of a community Centre and the legacy of St. Pat’s. It just won’t be located on that lot, “So what we are looking at now, as we explained to the membership, is we are now going to continue on with the business plan, and more market research to see where best these monies will benefit the community.”

There’s no official word on what the new Owners will do with the property, but diagrams for future plans for the Dr. Georges-Dumont Hospital show a new pavilion for oncology patients, on the lot where the current St. Pat’s Community Centre building stands.
