“Spring Fling” At Riverview Animal Hospital This Weekend

Parents and pet owners should drop by a free presentation on Child and Dog Safety at the Riverview Animal Hospital this weekend.

President Founder of the Maritime Greyhound Adoption Program Deb Levasseur says a lot of people expect dogs to tolerate all behaviour from children.

She says that’s unfair to the animals, and you have to teach your child the proper way to approach pets.

“Well a lot of people are taught to tell their child to stick their hand out in front of the dog’s face and this is really not the best way to approach a dog,” says Levasseur.

She says they teach kids and parents where and how dogs like to be petted, how to approach pets, and how to read canine body language signals.

“Dogs are talking to us all the time, if we just pick up on a few cues we know exactly how they are feeling,” says Levasseur. “And if we know how they are feeling, we don’t ever have to put them in a defensive situation.”

The Spring Fling runs tomorrow between 2 and 4 at the Riverview Animal Hospital.
