SPCA Successful In ‘Break In Relief’ Fundraising Campaign

The Greater Moncton SPCA is thankful for the community’s generosity and quick response to their call for help.

Last month, someone broke into the facility causing just under $20, 000 in damages.

Executive director Dan Fryer says they weren’t sure how to go about raising the funds and decided to set up a GoFundMe page.

“We had quite the extensive internal discussion as to whether it was something we wanted to go to the public with in light of COVID and whether we though the public would support that request and very clearly the public answered us,” Fryer says.

He says support came pouring in and within a week of posting the request, were able to surpass their goal and raised just over $21, 000.

The SPCA has received some leads since they released some security footage from the night of the incident but RCMP are still investigating.

Fryer says they fully intend on placing charges against the person responsible.
