Some Parents Worried About Footing Bill For University

It’s been a bittersweet weekend for a lot of parents sending kids off to college or university for the first time.

A new survey finds Mom & Dad are footing most of the bill for their child’s higher learning and those here are pretty worried about it.

A BMO survey finds 42 per cent of parents expect to pay most of their child’s expenses includng tuition, living expenses and the cost of books and supplies.

79 per cent of parents in Atlantic Canada are concerned they won’t be able to afford the cost.

The study finds the other sources of funding for students are financial assistance, the student’s own savings and scholarships.

The study also found that parents have non-financial concerns as well such not getting a job after graduation, maintaining good grades while in school and
staying focused on school and not partying too much.
