Charity Golf Event For ‘Soldier On’

Injured veterans will be golfing with nineteen teams of business leaders from Atlantic Canada at Royal Oaks Golf Course today.

The charity golf tournament will raise money for a Canadian Armed Forces program called “Soldier On”.

Spokesperson Jake Bell says a number of fundraisers are held each year to support it.

“(The program is) for sick and injured soldiers to reintegrate, to adjust to their new life, with their injuries and their illnesses that they have.

And to be with their peers, people who have a shared experience, and it gets them back into as normal a life they can have through sport and recreation,” noted Bell.

To help celebrate the event, flyovers of a Cyclone helicopter and a Griffon helicopter will be held during the noon hour at Royal Oaks.

The community is also invited to get an up-close look at armoured vehicles from CFB Gagetown which will be on display this afternoon.
