Snow, freezing rain, ice pellets and rain for N.B.

There will be some slipping and sliding going on tonight.

Yellow alert freezing rain warnings have now been issued for areas including Moncton and Southeast New Brunswick, Sussex, Kennebecasis Valley, Kings County and Fundy National Park.

Environment Canada is calling for freezing rain to begin after midnight tonight and wrap up Wednesday morning.

It’s also expected to mix with ice pellets and wet snow, with amounts between 5 and 15 millimetres.

Meteorologist Jill Maepea says we won’t see temperatures suddenly plunge into the deep freeze.

“Places that are getting the freezing precip are going to be right around zero, while up north it’ll be below zero because they’ll see mostly snow and a few ice pellets. In the south, it’ll be a few degrees above zero.”

Special weather statements remain in effect for areas including Saint John, St. Stephen, and Northern Charlotte County, Grand Manan, and Coastal Charlotte County, with warnings of the potential for rain at times mixed with freezing rain tonight and Wednesday morning.

Maepea says winds will be mild with this system.

She had some additional bad news for those awaiting better weather, “We’re watching another system very similar to this for Friday.”
