Smokehouse In Petit-Cap Destroyed By Fire

Fire has destroyed a commercial smokehouse on Wharf Street in Petit-Cap.

Cap-Pele Fire Chief Ronald Cormier says the business was fully engulfed when they arrived at around 11pm Thursday night.

He adds no one was inside, but the building was full of fish.

Around 50 firefighters from Cap-Pele, Shediac, Port Elgin, Bayfield and Beaubassin-Est helped to battle the blaze.

Cormier adds with the frigid temperatures, it was challenging because of a frozen truck and hoses.

No word on a cause yet, but Cormier says the fire is not considered suspicious.
