Two sisters are continuing the legacy started by their late sibling Gini Bourque, an avid cyclist who raised awareness and more than $50,000 for cancer research.
Diana and her sister Sandra are cycling this month and hope to raise $10,000 for NB Doctors Cycling Against Cancer.
Their ride is called “Team: We Dream of Gini” in memory of their sister.
“We are cycling every day in June and we go all over the place. We try to have a destination in mind, so we might go for ice cream or perhaps a beverage somewhere just to raise awareness for the ride. People will see us riding in our ‘H’ shirts.”
Diana says the funds raised will stay locally.
“The money goes directly to the Dr. Sheldon H. Rubin Oncology Clinic in Moncton. So it takes care of people right here and around New Brunswick as well.”
Diana admits she doesn’t especially like cycling but is doing it for Gini because the cause was so important to her and she does have good memories once she gets on the bike.
Since her death in April of breast cancer, the family of Gini Bourque has also created three bursaries in her name.
