SiRT Asked To Investigate N.B. Man’s Death

Mounties have asked for an independent investigation following the death of a man in northwestern New Brunswick.

RCMP said they went to a camp in the Rivière-Verte local service district on Friday evening to execute a search warrant related to a firearms complaint.

“While approaching the camp, gunshots were heard and fired from the camp towards the attending officers,” Mounties said in a news release on Sunday.

“Upon executing the warrant and entering the camp, police located the body of a 37-year-old man, from the community, deceased.”

No officers were injured as a result of the gunshots, according to police.

RCMP said they referred the incident to the Nova Scotia Serious Incident Response Team “following further review of the events.”
