Booster seats can be the key to keeping your kids safe in the car.
Child Passenger Safety Specialist Katherine Hutka says there are certain things a parents consider before moving their child into a booster seat.
“In order to move into the booster seat they need to weigh at least 40 pounds but they also should be between 4 and 6 years old,” says Hutka. “The reason for this is because the child sitting in a booster seat needs to be able to sit correctly for the entire trip.”
The booster seat helps to boost the child up, so that the adult seatbelt fits the child properly.
Regulations for when a child can do without a seat are set provincially.
