At about 4 pm yesterday, the Moncton Fire Department arrived to the Medavie Blue Cross building at 12 Millennium blvd.
Platoon chief Dennis Dollemont says there was no actual fire but that a battery short circuit in the building’s electrical room caused a lot of smoke.
He says firefighters had to shut the building’s power off in order to suffocate the smoldering wires and clear the smoke.
Dollemont says they had to evacuate about 400 people from the building.
The Moncton fire prevention team is investigating the cause of the short circuit.
