Second Man Charged In Homicide Case

A second man has been charged in connection with the death of 36-year-old Alexander Matthew Peters from Elsipogtog First Nation.

The New Brunswick Major Crime Unit arrested a 69-year-old man at a home in Elsipogtog First Nation on Monday.

Joseph Harvey Francis appeared in Moncton Provincial Court on Tuesday by way of tele-remand and was charged with second degree murder.

He was remanded into custody pending a court appearance on November 8 at 9:30 a.m.

The charges stem from an October 7 incident at a home on Oak Street, in Elsipogtog First Nation, where police responded to an altercation and found 36-year-old Alexander Matthew Peters suffering from stab wounds.

The man died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

Later the same day, a 46-year-old man was arrested in the community, and a weapon was seized by police.

Nibogtoog Leonard Francis, from Elsipogtog First Nation, appeared in Saint John Provincial Court on October 8 by way of tele-remand and was charged with second degree murder.

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on November 8 at 9:30 am.
